Hi guys and girls!

My name is Rory, and I'm a full-stack web developer from Ireland.

I've been working as part of small teams since 2010, delivering web apps pretty much constantly ever since, using technologies ranging from Rails, C#, Python and Node.js on the backend to jQuery to Angular, RiotJS and React on the front.

I can help with some pair programming, teach you about a concept you're struggling with or help you work out a specific problem.

What makes me different? I remember what it's like to be stuck with things. I get myself lost on a regular basis - it's good practice and an essential part of the constant learning that a successful programming career requires.

I've been hacking away in JavaScript for 6 years now, spanning the range from vanilla JS to React on the front-end and Node.js on the back. I love JS (probably my favourite language) and I'm enjoying using it throughout my stack! I think an advantage I have here is that I am good at JS but no so far into mastery that I've forgotten what it's like to be a beginner. I can relate to, understand and help someone who is earlier in their journey.

Having built several web-apps in C#, I feel I've a solid grounding in the language and am well able to help someone else with issues they may be encountering. It's a fun, well-designed language and it can be remarkably productive once you're in the mix! I learned C# on-the-job, learning by making all the mistakes you can make and fixing them, so I'm sure I can help with problems you might be having!

I learned and then used Python for my first personal startup company, building an event organisation and payment collecting web app. I loved the experience, and Python has been a part of my toolkit ever since. It's now, in fact, my primary language (along with JS). Python is a lovely, expressive language, but not without its foibles. Having learned it relatively recently, the difficulties I had are still fresh in my mind. I look forward to helping you overcome yours!
