Software Engineer teaching to make tech a more inclusive field

I'm a software engineer based in Switzerland who enjoys teaching everything from rock climbing to guitar. I believe in the effectiveness of 1 to 1 teaching because each student has specific needs, things they're curious about, and speeds at which they understand different concepts.

In the industry, I've had great mentors who have empowered me to solve problems on my own. I love the feeling when I can teach others to do the same.

I learned Java as an undergraduate and used the language throughout courses in Data Structures, Algorithms, Machine Learning, and Graphics. I also used Java as a back end engineer at Amazon while working on a Cloud Drive web service for image cutting. I developed monitoring features of the Cloud Drive image cutting service in Java which enabled us to bring the service to external customers’ reliability and performance standards.

At Amazon, I invented and developed a unique cross-platform test framework in Python and C# for the Amazon Cloud Drive Mac and Windows desktop apps. At UPROPE, a startup, I created a Django web app for rock climbers to track climbing progress. At Microsoft, I created a Python SDK for 3rd party apps to integrate with Office 365.

At Leonteq AG, I was a backend Scala developer working on the product documentation generation web service. I enjoyed working alongside 40 other Scala developers and learning more about functional programming. At the Scala Center (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) I rewrote the tour of Scala, introductory documentation geared towards programmers coming from other languages. I reworked the wording to make it clearer based on the comments section and made the examples more self-evident instead of snippets from PhD theses. I also worked on some side coding projects such as sbt.

At Splunk, I developed a framework for automated testing of Splunk’s clustering feature using Python and Pytest. At Amazon, I created a test framework that would log in, click around the app, and upload photos. It was cool to write a single test in Python and see it work on both Mac and Windows.
