In 1995, I was responsible for developing a Java applet that provided call-control services for Mitel's telephony platform. Later, I was tasked with implementing the JTAPI specification for them. After Mitel, I developed a BASIC interpreter in Java (LLR) for a start-up company that provided Internet chat facilities. From there, I moved on to Abebooks.com where I had hands-on experience developing Servlets and high-priority batch services. While at Invoq systems, we used Java to implement a real-time critical event resolution system. For BC Ferry Services, Java was used for three projects, spanning four years of full-time work, with a J2EE framework. In 2012 and 2013 I continued to work with Java and Oracle's ADF enterprise tools.

I have used XML in a variety of systems, including an implementation of (at the time) one of the world's smallest and fastest XML parser (in Java). I have integrated delivery systems for AbeBooks based on third-party XML-based protocols. I strongly believe that XML is most effective when element redundancy is eliminated.

Most of my PHP work has been for side-projects. Professionally, I used PHP for part of a GIS Resource Management Tool. The tool is used by Alberta Health Services to track and visualize the location of team members and networking equipment throughout the province.

I have authored a book on JasperReports based on my experience using the product in four different projects. I was awarded the JasperSoft RockStar Award at the first annual JasperSoft convention in 2011.

All my professional experience has been mostly related to web-based technology. Starting from the Mitel Corporation around 1999 until today.

Professionally, I have developed robotic arm protection software, a server/desktop client for a real-time critical event resolution system, and a number of personal projects. I created a ProFTPd module that allows FTP users to connect using credentials stored in an Oracle database.

Have used XSLT for transforming XML documents on various projects. From abstracting command-line based help options for C and Java source files to the internationalization of an online book store. Currently using XSLT part-time to transform XML documents into both XHTML and ConTeXt documents.
