I teach a C++ course at Missoula College of the University of Montana as well as authoring online video courses at PackT Publishing. I am also a Freelance Web Developer with extensive knowledge in HTML/CSS/JS including frameworks like jQuery, ReactJS, and Angular. I consider myself an intermediate Ruby on Rails developer and I enjoy writing solutions in this tech stack. I have also worked with Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal, and other CMS platforms as well as dabbled with several personal projects in RoR, Groovy/Grails, Django and similar Full Stack MVCs.

After getting out of grad school with my MBA in Finance, I began my career teaching hedge fund associates, asset managers, investment bankers, private equity associates and the like how to use my company’s web tool and excel plugin for financial modeling. Over the next 15 years, I worked as the Manager of Business Analytics leading a team of 3 and migrating analytics from excel to increasingly more technical solutions using SAS, Analysis Services and other tools and then moved to Consulting where I built Analytics solutions in the cloud learning new technologies to tackle more and more challenging problems. The past 5 years I’ve spent mastering the Azure data environment while helping countless junior technical professionals improve their skills on the job and deliver solutions that align with industry best practices. When I’m working with people, I encourage them to be curious about what we are trying to learn and why it’s useful to gain that understanding. I encourage them to break problems down into the smallest parts possible and gain understanding of what purpose each step has and what scenarios are handled. I’m trying to teach a thought process and approach that enables people to think their way through the next slightly different problem that they are faced with and not just the one problem in front of them now. The greatest joy that I get is when I see someone I’ve been working with take the next step, seeing a new issue and developing a solution that takes the next step beyond the patterns of the past to apply a new way of getting to the answer. Technology will never be more than an ever expanding tool belt, and an ability to correctly learn and marry the capability of the tools to the problems in front of you is far more valuable than being able to consistently mimic a pattern for a narrow use case without real understanding.

A UK-based Data Professional, I have over 20 years experience in Excel, Access, SQL and VBA, and have learnt a **ton** about data, reporting, automation, and how to make the systems I design work smarter to add *real* business value. The majority of my career to date has been in: -Microsoft Office products (Access, Excel, VBA programming) -Microsoft SQL (databases, stored procedures, SSRS, SSIS, PowerBI, Optimization) -PowerShell (script creation) -Data imports/exports -Azure DevOps, including Azure Data Factory Pipelines, Powershell, Chocolatey and more -Data Warehouse creation, systems integration -Creating useful and timely information systems (reports, dashboards) with data from one or multiple sources I have worked in a number of industries including Automotive Manufacturing, Oil/Gas/Nuclear, Engineering, Food Manufacturing, amongst others, and have extensive experience with MES, ERP and PLM system integration. I am passionate about what I do, and want to pass on some of the knowledge and expertise that I've acquired over the years. I've only just got started on CodeMentor, but really enjoy working with Clients from around the world to help them make sense of the issue they are trying to troubleshoot. If you're struggling with an issue in any of the areas I specialise in, you are very welcome to contact me to discuss your issue. Our initial discussion will be completely free of charge, to ascertain whether I can provide the support you need - and if you're happy to proceed, then we'll get started! If you need something more longer-term or a piece of work completing, we can discuss that, too. I've successfully completed a number of freelancing projects, both large and small, and am willing to negotiate my fee for these projects. I look forward to working with you! :-)

What are the benefits of learning Access with a dedicated tutor?

Learning Access with a dedicated tutor from Codementor offers several significant benefits that can accelerate your understanding and proficiency:

  • Personalized learning: A dedicated tutor adapts the learning experience to your specific needs, skills, and goals. This personalization ensures that you are not just learning Access, but exceling in a way that directly aligns with your objectives.

  • Career guidance: Tutors can also offer guidance on how to apply Access in professional settings, assist in building a relevant portfolio, and advise on career opportunities, which is particularly beneficial if you plan to transition into a new role or industry.

By leveraging these benefits, you can significantly improve your competency in Access in a structured, supportive, and effective environment.

How does personalized Access mentoring differ from traditional classroom learning?

Personalized Access mentoring through Codementor offers a unique and effective learning approach compared to traditional classroom learning, particularly in these key aspects:

  • Customized content: Personalized mentoring adapts the learning material and pace specifically to your needs and skill level. This means the sessions can focus on areas where you need the most help or interest, unlike classroom settings which follow a fixed curriculum for all students.
  • One-on-one attention: With personalized mentoring, you receive the undivided attention of the tutor. This allows for immediate feedback and detailed explanations, ensuring that no questions are left unanswered, and concepts are fully understood.
  • Flexible scheduling: Personalized mentoring is arranged around your schedule, providing the flexibility to learn at times that are most convenient for you. This is often not possible in traditional classroom settings, which operate on a fixed schedule.
  • Pace of learning: In personalized mentoring, the pace can be adjusted according to how quickly or slowly you grasp new concepts. This custom pacing can significantly enhance the learning experience, as opposed to a classroom environment where the pace is set and may not align with every student’s learning speed.
  • Practical, hands-on learning: Mentors can provide more practical, hands-on learning experiences tailored to real-world applications. This direct application of skills is often more limited in classroom settings due to the general nature of the curriculum and the number of students involved.

Personalized mentoring thus provides a more tailored, flexible, and intensive learning experience, making it ideal for those who seek a focused and practical approach to mastering Access.
