ABOUT ME
F#
F#

I started learning computer programming with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in March 2013 in a Linux environment (Ubuntu, which is Debian-flavored Linux), so RoR is what I got the most open source project and in-depth training experience in. I am a full stack RoR developer very strong in BDD/TDD and Agile.

Since then, I have branched out into JavaScript, Node, Magento, PHP, Angular, Backbone, and now F#.

My work experience includes writing manifests, doing security patchwork, and programatically re-rasterizing image files and sanitizing infected databases and wesites.

But oddly, PHP and JavaScript is what I got the most actual job opportunities for getting paid work experience in—even though I had to learn PHP and developing on the production server on the fly, which is strange considering that I did not start out learning computer programming in either .NET or PHP.

My developer preference zone equally favors the functional (F# and Haskell) and OOP (Ruby/RoR) programming languages. I have a strong PaaS background and strong BDD/TDD capabilities, and a four year degree in mathematics. So I am primarily a full-stack Ruby on Rails software developer with a growing collection of successful PHP, JavaScript and F# closed source contract projects. So far, I have worked mostly with relational databases (MySQL, SQL, etc. etc.).

I live in Erie County, Pennsylvania and I prefer remote positions but I am willing to commute to Buffalo or Cleveland. I am not available on-site full-time outside of this commuting area without upfront relocation assistance.

I started teaching myself F# after being introduced to it by a sr. developer who walked me through writing a parser to handle a clobbered YAML file that Ruby's Nokogiri gem choked on. I took off teaching myself F# from there, and am using F# in a major data-mining and report-generating project I am bootstrapping and trying to get fully funded so I can work on it full-time.

I started learning software development in Ruby/RoR in 2013 and was a sponsored participant in the first Rails Girls Summer of Code. After that, I slowly picked up some small side jobs and then landed a short-term subcontract doing some patch work for the head sysadmin at the University of Maryland (Baltimore), and some other side jobs from a sr. developer with his own consulting gig. I've created a simple Ruby gem that does the FizzBuzz algorithm. I built a cms app for someone who needed a cataloging system for their own private library, and also built a website for a professional wildlife photographer. I've also been asked to do a website for a survivor-run organization that provides transitional housing and other support services for adult women who are destitute and homeless survivors of human sex trafficking.
