Self-taught Ruby (and Rails) dev...I have experience tutoring and adapting to a student's needs and creating an atmosphere of learning and respect.

Bio:

I'm a self-taught Ruby developer who has spent time freelancing and now working for startup(s). I'm familiar with the standard "Rails stack", including basic setup with background job processors (Sidekiq), RSpec, and the usual Rails land gems.

I am excited about clean code, test-driven development, and removing unnecessary dependencies when possible.

FAQ:

  1. How do I schedule time with you? If you'd like to schedule a time for some 1-1 help on Codementor, you can book me here: https://calendly.com/brucepark0 . I'm usually available on Saturdays from 1-3 pm PST.

  2. How do long term mentorships work? Right now, I'm offering the first 15 minutes for new mentees for free to see if we're a good match. If we are and you'd like to continue and feel comfortable, we'll work together at my public rate.

Hi, I would classify myself as a self-taught Ruby developer mostly working with Rails for the past few years. I do have the traditional 4 year CS degree along with an engineering degree since that's how I started my career. I can help with basic SQL queries and basic caching as I've recently started to work on Rails apps with millions of rows in the database. I have a bit of familiarity with basic JavaScript and jQuery as well. I've only played a bit with AngularJS and React on the front end. I'm pretty good at debugging issues and have written my own gem(s). I'm starting to learn Elixir as well. I can also give you some tips on finding your first job as well, as I have experience being a self-taught programmer and went from freelancing to private industry.
