Java is a powerful language with a rich set of libraries and tools to start building robust solutions and expand in any direction required. Like with any powerful platform, there is a vast set of knowledge and experience that is hard to locate and master. I have 5 years of experience developing server side functionality in plain java, working with a rich code base and experienced developers allowing me to learn the minute and important details of the java platform. I have read tons of text and resources to understand the nuances and still put every effort to push the boundaries. I can help you understand the concept from the ground level so you won't have any trouble dealing with it.

Carrying the code you developed in your pocket is a great feeling. Having that code run and be useful to several people around the world is a wonderful feeling and Android makes it possible and easy to develop apps with its rich set of resources. However, the mobile apps need to run on low resources and also provide a good experience to the users and hence require understanding of the low level concepts to deliver an elegant application. While this is important for any serious app, it also makes it a thousand times more worth it and fulfilling to learn the basic concepts even if you are developing an app for personal use. I love android for the community, its framework and most importantly the way design is approached. Developing an app can be a wonderful experience with these philosophies combined with the expertise on how things work under the hood. I have developed nearly 20 different apps ranging several applications and play with making some apps for personal use. I have also spent several hours helping people learn Android on stackoverflow and reddit.

Data structures and algorithms used to be a scary subject for me during college, but thankfully, not anymore. I have come to learn that most of the dread comes from poor teaching and that data structures and algorithms are super fun. They helped me rediscover my love for math and logic. Once you understand and master the basics to develop a few data structures yourself, it will be a smooth sailing to understand any data structures or algorithms. Data structures and algorithms are essential for any developer worth his salt and they go a long way in making your solutions stand the test of time. Having been through the pain myself, I can help you understand the underlying concepts so vividly that you won't have any trouble with them at all. I regularly solve problems on hacker rank and also write my own data structures while developing solutions. Implementing data structures is also a fun way to master a language.

While most of the people I met in real life are scared of Javascript, I think Javascript is fun because the same code can be written in 10 different ways, each slightly different from each other. The best part for me is that I really don't need to install any software/engine to play with javascript. Javascript is present in all browsers and you can begin playing with it right away. Javascript is the language wth the most open sourced code and as a result comes with many wonderful libraries. I personally love the d3.js library for its elegance and d3 helps me achieve complex visualizations with very little effort. I play with d3 often and once even made it to the front page of codepen. I also tinker with nodejs from time to time and am fascinated at the rate at which it is evolving.

Antlr library makes it easy to parse text files. It also has grammars developed for many syntaxes and does all the required heavy lifting for parsing. I played with antlr for a pet project of mine and it saved me a lot of pain in parsing the text.
