ABOUT ME
Full-Stack Ruby on Rails Developer
Full-Stack Ruby on Rails Developer

I love solving problems, which is probably why I like being a developer.

I'm all about learning by trying (and sometimes failing) and making the development process more efficient. I've built a handful of Ruby gems to help make my development life easier, but I also like using other solutions when the answer already exists.

Most of all, I like helping others achieve their goals. I've spent some time on Stack Overflow, but mostly I try to log the solutions to my more complex problems on a blog—cobwwweb.com.

I work to find that happy combination of being laid back and relaxed, while also getting to usable solutions quickly.

I've used Ruby primarily in association with the Ruby on Rails framework. However, I find Ruby so easy to work with that I also prefer it for writing command line scripts. Many of the command line tools I've written have been in Ruby.

Most of the JavaScript I write uses jQuery, CoffeeScript or both. I tend to use JavaScript as an aid to interactivity with the client, and not as the main vehicle by which to deliver an application.

List most people, I've written HTML and CSS in conjunction with one another since I began learning about the web. I primarily use it in conjunction with some other framework, like Ruby on Rails, Middleman, WordPress, etc.

I quickly moved from PHP/WordPress to Ruby on Rails as soon as I discovered it. I've been building all my database-driven application in Rails for the past three years or so. I've done everything from a simple website to an interactive app that helps you build complex technical manuals.

I've never used another version control system. Git was around when I was introduced to version control for code, and I've never looked elsewhere. I've even gotten myself into some sticky situations and git always seems to get me out of it!

I had to learn CoffeeScript when I took my current job, as that team was using it with their Ruby on Rails projects. The syntax was odd to me at first, but I got the hang of it and now I try to write with it whenever I can.

Sean did a great job walking through my issue with me. This particular issue dealt with figuring out how to set up a particular model structure in my Rails project and Sean was extremely helpful in helping me come up with a few possible ways to do it before we found the best and simplest solution. He also worked to make sure he had all the information he needed from me before we started the actual session so as to not waste my time. I definitely plan on following up with Sean as I work through this stuff further.
