Joe is excellent as a mentor. To be a mentor you have to really know the subject matter and our experience was that he knew his stuff inside and out. But that is just a prerequisite. To be a great mentor you have to exhibit patience and explain things in simple enough terms where they are understandable but not so simple that the session is unduly long or inefficient. Joe is able to perfectly balance that. In addition, what sets him apart is that he is a great listener. He is confident enough in himself to not feel like he has to impress you with his knowledge and dominate the conversation. So you just feel comfortable that he is there to help and wants to understand the details of your problem before advising you.
