Hired as the Engineering Manager for the Direct platform, which is the company’s first end-user product for adaptive textbook replacement as well as student analytics suite for teachers. The product was a combination of a React frontend layer and a Node middleware layer to interact with Knewton’s platform. Worked closely with the Product Management team to iterate and launch a beta program for the Direct product to various educational institutions. Hired as the first Engineering Manager to help transition the company from startup to enterprise-level company Oversaw the Core Platform and Scaling teams which drove all the development of the core client APIs and database scaling (including MySQL, MongoDB, Redis and Celery). Responsible for a team of backend engineers, including coaching, reviews and compensation decisions. Completed along with People Ops, Head of Engineering and other Engineering managers a full reorganization of the Engineering team, including project tracking with JIRA, documentation with Confluence, core values, engineering levels, overhaul of the hiring process, bug tracking and triaging and software development lifecycle process. Shifted from a fuzzy project delivery to agile shipping, resulting in the delivery of two major projects that had been in the works for several months with no end in sight.
