I worked with spark on the Workday analytics team. We built an interactive data prep engine and cloud data warehouse product. I focused on the optimization of our large ETL jobs that would combine and transform data for consumption by our spark-based query engine.

I worked in the early years of the Drill project, mostly on the execution engine. The largest project I was mainly responsible for was the high performance Parquet reader for tabular data. I also did work in our runtime code-generated physical operators, and query optimization. I did additional related work at Dremio, and even more work later with a product built on top of spark. So I have more experience with distributed SQL than this graph shows, but the contributor graph for Drill gives a direct reference to open source work that I specifically was involved with. I wrote and still do occasional work maintaining a PHP and MySQL webapp for managing animal behavior data for scientific research. The project includes parsing and validating data from excel files, and then generating SQL queries for inserting and updating new data. It also maintains an audit log of edits to the database, maintained as separate tables in the database. Beyond this data loading application code.
