Software Developer

I’m a software developer loving Ruby (and Rails) since 2006. I like the BDD/TDD approach and I’m used to write well-tested code with RSpec and Cucumber following best practices.

I also have an interest in sysops/devops and I’m an official contributor to Dokku.

Well I began to do projects with Rails for the first time in 2006 as part of an internship when finishing my studies. The project was an internal app to report activities done each day by the team members. I handled all the development by myself. After that I worked on a little project for a crane-parts seller. The app was a catalog to list which parts could go in what crane. Here again it was only me on the project. Then a much bigger project was an internal reporting app for the Bank of France (Banque de France). I was the sole developer on this project but I had help on the financial rules part. The next project was at a startup called Addictrip (the website doesn’t exist as it was anymore). I was lead developer and I also managed the servers. It was a website to compare and book hotels in capital cities (mainly). We were fetching data through various APIs (from Expedia, Hotels, Venere, etc.) and aggregating them. Then I joined Studio Melipone and worked on various projects as lead developer/CTO. I worked mainly on startup projects: - ThenWeCan, a groupon-like website - I Like Cinema, a movie on demand in real theaters app (https://www.ilikecinema.com) - Tadaam, a simple planner tool for you team (https://tada.am) More recently I worked as a senior developer for MonsieurDrive (http://monsieurdrive.com) (but I’m still at Studio Melipone). As part of the team, we reengineered the website and all the logic behind it, following best practices and good OOP.

I discovered Ruby with Rails in 2006 and since then I really love this language. In fact I try to use it everywhere! I’ve made several gems for our clients but they don’t have been released as open source. Those were API wrappers. I’ve one open source gem which displays messages from GitLab CI in HipChat. But it is not maintained anymore since we’re not using hipchat anymore at work but slack instead (https://github.com/Flink/lita-gitlab-ci-hipchat). Also I read a lot of materials on Ruby (books, articles, etc.) and I particularly like books from Avdi Grimm and Sandi Metz. They really give great advice on OOP and Ruby.

I learnt to use RSpec (and Cucumber) with The RSpec Book (https://pragprog.com/book/achbd/the-rspec-book) in 2011. Since then, I’m not at ease with a project without any tests. I now write tested-code for every project I do and when I get on a project where tests are missing or not well maintained I try to change that for the better.

I’ve discovered Dokku in late 2014. We’re using it on our production and staging servers at Studio Melipone. Since march 2015, I’ve been contributing a lot (doing patches and plugins) and I’m now an official contributor.

I’m using git exclusively since 2009 now. I’ve read several books to be more proficient with it and I’m not afraid of rebase and conflicts. I always try to follow best practices when writing commits (think Tim Pope) and I also try to keep a clean history.

I’m managing servers for my personal and professional needs since about 2000. I’m mainly using Debian and Ubuntu and I’m able to setup and install about anything. What I’ve done mainly is the following: - mail server - web server - managing apps with supervisord - deployment with dokku (and docker) - applying security patches - simple monitoring
