ABOUT ME
I am a self taught software engineer turned electrical/firmware engineer. I have been the chief architect at medium and small companies and enjoy teaching people anything I know that they are curious about.
My main professional experience is pytho2/3n with postgresql (sqlalchemy and flask), though I have done a significant amount of C in my time for desktops, mobile phones, and embedded micro-controllers.
In my spare time I am currently working on learning Rust and D, as well as trying to make a cross platform hardware abstraction layer for JTAG controller access so micro-controllers and FPGAs can be programmed/debugged without headache.

SQL started off as that thing to hope someone else does for me. Over the years I stopped hating it and started realizing its power. Now I make very complicated queries that are highly optimized in both lazy orms like sqlalchemy and direct SQL when needed. I am now kind of an evangelist for doing work in SQL instead of in your back end language.

I manaaged Urban Mapping's AWS setup which inclued multiple servers in multiple availability groups in strict access control groups for 2 years. I have worked on Hackerlist AWS related instances since then and have recovered catastrophic server failures by knowing how to handle amazon resources. I have also scripted AWS with boto.

At urban mapping I started with flask as a replacement to django since the django models would not die quietly (and we did not need them at all). I have become a huge fan of Flask's micro approach to webframeworks.
I have written several backends and the support code for several frontends in flask, even changing out the template engining to jinja and making the sessions use redis. I am very comfortable in Flask.

Postgres is my go to database for anything requiring an ORDBMS. I have written triggers and temporary tables, and queries of insane complexity for postgres in raw ql and ORM systems like sqlalchemy. I am very VERY familiar with this database. I even gave a talk to a small group of engineers on optimizing sql queries.

I rewrote the entire database handling code at Urban mapping to use sqlalchemy instead of the Django models. This was necessary because Django did not provide lazy calls which destroyed performance of our complex requests. Sqlalchemy directly sped up the system by at least 10X, and much more in various pathological cases.
I use Sqlalchemy as my go to ORM for hackerlist, and all other projects that use python. I even help out new users on IRC from time to time.
