With the rising popularity of Node.js, JavaScript is poised to be one of the most pervasive and flexible languages in use. It can be used to build back-ends (Node.js), asynchronous front-ends (React.js, Socket.io, Angular), cross-platform desktop apps (Electron), and mobile devices (Ionic, React Native). I specialize in JS, particularly Node.js, React, Angular 2, and Electron.

Now that modern browsers have largely adopted HTML5 and CSS3 and are more-or-less standards compliant, coding sites and making them pretty has never been easier.

PHP is the workhorse of the web. It's not elegant but it gets the job done. It's also readily available on most servers and has been used to build some of the most popular tools on the web, including WordPress and Drupal. It's not a language most coders will fall in love with, but it's a good language to know.

I'm not a Ruby expert, but I've worked on several Ruby on Rails projects over the years. Most recently, I built a front-end for a Rails site that makes good use of React.js for a slick, asynchronous UI.

Although not as pivotal to a site's front-end as it once was, jQuery still makes life easier for the front-end developer. It provides a more compact and readable way of interacting with a site's DOM and it shores up issues with raw JavaScript related to cross-browser compatibility. It's a library that every front-end developer should be familiar with.

Asynchronous user interfaces are the future of the web, and React.js and Angular.js are at the forefront of the movement to end (or severely reduce) the need for browser refreshes.

Drupal is a complex CMS with great potential but a steep learning curve. There are plenty of modules and themes readily available, but sometimes something off-the-shelf doesn't perfectly fit the need at hand. That's where custom module and theme development comes in. I build modules and themes from the ground up.
