How do you manage technical debt?

How do you manage technical debt?

At times, it's necessary to make compromises for the sake of efficiency.

We've probably all been there — writing quick solutions in order to save time. But we also know that bad code is a burden. If not managed properly, the technical debt incurred eventually becomes unmanageable. 😱

What do you (and your team) do to identify and manage technical debt? 🤔

Writing quick solutions never ends up well 🤮

Wanna save time? Do not have technical debt.

I’ve spent years following project owners’ command to “release it”! You end up with the code that you are not excited about and with a client, always concerned about product quality.

Quit this endless 💩show asap and work with those, who value quality. This kind of person is incomparably harder to find, but this is much faster way to build a portfolio that will serve you for your whole life!

On the development teams I manage, we document technical debt with JIRA cards and use the TechDebt label to track. We then schedule health sprints to pay back the tech debt, usually the sprint immediately following delivery.
