How I learned HTML/CSS/JavaScript

Published May 28, 2020

About me

I was born an artist and creative individual. My perfectionism shows when I code because it's very organized and easy to understand. I value standards and formats that make coding and learning easier.

Why I wanted to learn HTML/CSS/JavaScript

It was very interesting to find out that by using HTML/CSS/JavaScript I can create a web site. I decided to learn how to use this technology so that I can communicate with the world. Learning this technology lead me to deeper frameworks, like ASP.NET and SQL Server.

How I approached learning HTML/CSS/JavaScript

I would read everything I could get my browser to pull up, especially documentation. If you can read the official docs and then program something that works, you're pretty good at what you do.

Challenges I faced

The only real challenge I faced was having a computer that was powerful enough to run the software needed to develop apps. I finally have a rig capable of crunching the code and graphics needed in what I develop.

Key takeaways

You can do anything with a few lines of code. Don't let someone tell you that it can't be done, cause with enough effort it will be accomplished.

Tips and advice

My advice is to take it slow. Read as much as you can, and do some coding for friends for free. It will give you a chance to solve problems you didn't know existed.

Final thoughts and next steps

After becoming proficient at a language you should get certified in it. An official cert will look great on your resume.
