ABOUT ME
Quality comes from experience
Quality comes from experience

In order to become excellent in any field, practice alone is not enough.

Things are always uniquely different in real life scenario's. In order to understand and react properly under all circumstances, a wide range of experience is needed.

As a professional, I have had this mixed range of experiences, both in startups as in already solidified companies. By treating every situation as an opportunity to learn and excel, I have been able to attain a very high standard of quality in my programming skills.

Beside these qualities, I also enjoy helping, teaching and educating others. Instead of only communicating in one manner or tone, I try to adapt to the way the person I am working with communicates.

By combining these two characteristics I can help developers to overcome problems and achieve the solution they are seeking.

I have been developing in PHP since 2002 and have observed the language changing over the last decade. Although it will always be a weird quirky language, it can be very powerful when understood and correctly used. Personally I have a very strong affinity with adding tests to my code, as it can make all the difference in making sure the code performs optimally under edge-case circumstances.

As a professional web developer, Javascript is the bread and butter of website and application development. I tend to spend my time between plain javascript, jQuery and an assorted array of ever changing framework (Angular seems to be quite popular at the moment).

I've been working with HTML even before CSS was a thing. following the advancement of CSS and HTML over the years has been quite breathtaking. As a professional web-developer, working and staying up to date with all of the browsers and W3C advancements is a job in itself. Often underrated, HTML can be very powerful when all of its features are utilised.

Coming from SVN and having to work more and more with Git, I made a great effort to understand how git works and what the "git way" of doing things is. This has left me with both a fondness for the tool as well as a more profound understanding of how things work in (and with) git.

Shell scripts are the glue between various parts of any system (and between different systems). Being able to automate developer tasks makes it possible to increase job effectiveness and job satisfaction . Being able to build high-quality, easy to maintain shell scripts is a skill _any_ developer should possess. As builds/deploys/CI/DevOps became more and more prevalent, so did the need for shell scripting knowledge. One of the most overlooked area's in this respect is portability/interoperability. Over the span of my career, I have been fortunate to have learned a lot from many different sys-admins, DevOps and developers. I'd be glad to share this knowledge and help others evolve their shell-fu.
