Leveraging Search to Build an Engaging User Experience, with Alexandre Collin of Algolia

Google and Amazon changed the rules of the search game, making it the default style of interaction on the Web. Yet implementing a fast and reliable site search has been challenging for decades. Nobody could build a search like Google and Amazon. Many developers convinced themselves that it was not a really important UI element. As a results, lots of websites and applications fail to meet users’ high expectations in terms of search experience. To build a search, websites used to spend 95% of their time on the backend, and didn’t have the time to care about the search UX. Things have changed, and they can now rely on services that are experts of the backend, and focus their time on what matters for their users.
In this video, Alex will show that things have changed. Any developer or business can now offer a Google/Amazon-like experience, by relying on tools and services doing the back-end heavy lifting.

He will introduce the must-have tools for creating an engaging search experience, such as multi category autocomplete, instant faceting, and ranking strategies.

Alex is a Customer Solutions Engineer at Algolia, an instant search API that enables developers and business to integrate great search experience in their applications without being search experts.
