A Pep-Talk For the Tortoise Learners of Software Development

About the talk

In this talk, I will share a key lesson I've learned (over the past 13+) years, about learning software-development and other STEM subjects. This lesson has resulted from my work and learning experiences as: a professor and social-science researcher; lover of learning; career-changer; neurodiverse individual; and mental-healthcare worker-in-training (in preparation of becoming a mental health counselor/therapist). And that lesson can be summarized via the allegory of the kids' famous tale about the tortoise and the hare.

This talk will cover

  • How to tell if you’re “a tortoise”—i.e., a slow learner, or “a hare”—i.e., a quick learner;
  • How to embrace yourself as a slow learner;
  • And most importantly, how to improve your thinking--and continuing the pursuit of excellence, without feeling worn out.
