Drupal MySQL Server has gone away

If you've begun to encounter this with your Drupal site, chances are it is an issue with Drupal writing a packet bigger than your MySQL server can take. This most often happens when caching data.

To fix, simply modify your my.cnf or make a drupal.cnf under /etc/mysql/conf.d that has the following

[mysqld] max_allowed_packet=16M

For more info, see https://www.drupal.org/requirements/database
