Lua is my personal choice for most projects, because it is a lightweight scripting language, as powerful as Python, Ruby and other modern scripting languages, and has an advanced JIT engine (LuaJIT2) with performance comparable to the JVM but in less than a megabyte in size.

Driven, Proficient, Effective

I have been using Lua for over 8 years. This includes the Lua language itself and the Lua C api also. I have written a multitude of software in Lua including a Lua Interpreter for the Sony PSP, games, apps, frameworks and more. I know the language like the back of my hand.

Senior Webapp/UX Architect and Fullstack Dev

As a multi-year project for a private platform I built a bespoke opensource web framework and NoSQL database system utilising Lua for its flexibility, simple syntax in embedded usage (friendly even to designers!), and performance (<1ms dynamic web page generation) as compared more common but laggardly PHP frameworks such as Magento and Wordpress. This solution is optimal for high-performance on low cost VPS hosting (i.e. $20/month) handling tens of millions of hits per day, maintaining 'instantaneous' responsiveness even under load peaks.

Lua is an excellent, small-footprint and very portable scripting language. LuaJIT's FFI extension allows calling external C functions and using C data structures directly from Lua code. I've been using it to implement custom DSL's for which the language is well-suited due to some specific language features.

Technology and programming lover, coursing Computer Science at University of São Paulo, with interests in music (composing + playing), games (develop + playing) and cooking (make + eat).

Lua is one of the most well designed scripting languages I've ever seen. It is very simple, yet powerful, and provides great interoperability with C/C++. Lua is easily embeddable, making it great for extending an application's features through scripts, like games. It's metatable mechanism lets us create several abstractions, like custom types and object systems, including classes (if you ever need them). It also supports functional programming with first-class functions/closures, which is awesome to model many problems out there.
