I am a self-taught software engineer with the patience to listen and the experience of knowing what works at scale. Through my Startup Weekend experience and time spent freelancing in co-working spaces, I know how to scope and build an MVP. Through my Techstars experience, I know how to ask lots of questions about everything from financial models to implementation details. Through my experience at Quirky and Digital Ocean, I know what breaks when you have millions of users and billions of records and how to solve those challenges quickly. Looking for a mentor? I remember what it was like starting out and remember the kind of mentorship that helped get me where I am today. If your rubber ducky and linter have both failed you, let's talk. Looking for a freelancer? Let's talk about your project and make sure we're 100% clear on the result you are looking for. Your success is my success.

Most of my professional development experience is in Ruby, using Ruby on Rails to rapidly develop MVPs for startups. In addition to using RoR for rapid prototyping, I have also worked on larger codebases for companies like Quirky and Digital Ocean, focused on optimizing code and building performant features.

I have spent my entire career as a developer working across the entire stack and building extensive knowledge in everything from basic git deployments to orchestrating servers using Chef. My understanding of underlying network technologies like DNS, TCP/IP, and internet routing are strong enough to quickly debug and patch low level issues.

Go is one of my more recent languages, but one I am excited about for building small and focused solutions where performance truly matters or having a single deployable binary that works cross-platform is needed. My ability to parse Go code and pair program to work towards solutions is strong, but I am not as proficient when it comes to writing code for the first time.
